Some time ago, there
was quite a wonderful little shop called Old World Antiques on 57th
street between Park and Lexington Avenue. It was presided over by
my great uncle, Fred Spanierman, who left Vienna in 1902. Nearby
was the old Savoy Art and Auction gallery located at 5 East 59th
street (later it moved to 50th street across from Saint Patrick’s
Cathedral). It was founded in 1928 and was presided over by my father,
Samuel Spanierman.
And now, Spanierman Gallery, LLC, located at 45 East 58th street right between those old memories, is presided over by me.
For more than half a century Spanierman Gallery,
LLC has been dedicated to dealing in the finest nineteenth and twentieth-century
American painting and sculpture. In September of 1994, the gallery
moved from 50 East 78th street (its location for almost thirty years),
to a luxurious space at 45 East 58th Street directly across the
street from the Four Seasons Hotel. With 10,000 square feet of space,
the gallery presents exhibitions of the highest quality including
works on loan from museums and private collections, as well as works
from our own holdings.

The gallery is distinguished for its scholarship
and actively supports research in American art. In addition, I am
currently co-author on the forthcoming catalogue raisonnés
on the art of American Impressionists, John
Henry Twachtman, Theodore
Robinson and Willard
Metcalf. I am also sponsoring the Lloyd Goodrich, Edith
Havens Goodrich and Whitney Museum of American Art catalogue raisonné
of the work of Winslow Homer.
These publications will be definitive reference sources on their
respective artists. Recently, Spanierman Gallery sponsored the exhibition
Winslow Homer: Masterworks from the Adirondacks which opened on
June 21, 2004 at the New York State Historical Association/Fenimore
Art Museum in Cooperstown, New York.

The gallery is a member of various organizations including the Art and Antique Dealers League of America, the Appraisers Association of America, the Antiques Council, the Confederation Internationale des Negociants en Oeuvres d'Art, the Fine Art Dealers Association, the Thomas Cole Foundation (Mr. Spanierman is currently Executive Director and President), and the Thomas Cole House (Mr. Spanierman is on the Board of Advisors).
Mr. Spanierman's goal is to continue exhibiting
and dealing in American art of the highest quality and to pursue
his dedication to the further education of the American public regarding
its artistic and cultural heritage. |
